Our Mission
At Ember Tails Animal Rescue, our mission is to give animals in need a second chance while helping strengthen the bond between people and the animals they love.
We rescue animals from the streets and situations where they need a safe place to go, while also helping owners responsibly rehome pets when they can no longer care for them. We provide compassionate care, rehabilitation, and support to help animals move toward safe, loving homes.
We believe that rescue is about more than finding animals new homes. It is also about preventing animals from entering shelters and rescues in the first place. Through education and community outreach, we strive to teach pet owners about responsible animal care, spaying and neutering, preventative veterinary care, and the importance of understanding and meeting their pets’ needs.
Our goal is to create a community where animals are valued, families are supported, and fewer pets are left without the care and loving home they deserve.
Why Ember Tails?
My love for animals began when I was young. Growing up in the U.S. Virgin Islands, I always knew that helping animals was something I wanted to dedicate my life to.
At 13 years old, I began volunteering at the Humane Society of St. Thomas. By 16, I was working there during the summers, getting my first real experience caring for animals in need and seeing firsthand how many animals depend on people to speak up for them.
At 19, I began working at a spay/neuter clinic, and at 20, I started working full-time at Canines, Cats and Critters. Around that same time, I also began volunteering with my friend’s rescue, Off the Rocks, which focused on rehabilitating cats and helping them find placement with rescues in Massachusetts.
When my husband and I moved to North Carolina when I was 22, I continued pursuing my passion for animal welfare. I worked at North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital, later at Five Points Resort in Raeford, and then at Sandhills Spay/Neuter Clinic of Vass.
I eventually began fostering and volunteering with Paws of the Pines Rescue, where I spent three years learning, growing, and helping animals in need.
Through all of these experiences, I realized that I wanted to take the next step and create something of my own: a rescue built around not only saving animals, but also helping people and preventing animals from reaching a crisis point in the first place.
That is why Ember Tails Animal Rescue was born.
I believe every animal deserves a chance, regardless of where they came from, what they’ve been through, their age, or the challenges they may face. I also believe that helping animals means helping the people who care for them. Sometimes an owner needs education, resources, veterinary support, or simply a safe and compassionate option for rehoming their pet.
Ember Tails is about second chances, but it is also about prevention. We want to educate our community about spaying and neutering, preventative veterinary care, responsible pet ownership, and the lifelong commitment that comes with bringing an animal into your family.
The name Ember Tails represents the belief that even when an animal’s life feels like it has been reduced to ashes, there can still be an ember: a small spark of hope waiting for someone to protect it, nurture it, and give it the chance to burn bright again.
Every tail has a story. Every life has value. And sometimes, all an animal needs is someone willing to see the ember still burning.
